CANZAC Joint Free Slab system is capable of cutting tens of dollars per square meter from the construction costs of any project. When the system is used it is also possible to cut weeks from the construction program of any sizeable project. With the Joint Free Slab system restraint to shrinkage movement is desirable and hence all sand blinding and compressible isolation material around the perimeter and around columns etc is deleted. All formed joints, special joint reinforcement, dowels, de-bonding agents, cleaning, priming, backing rods and sealants are eliminated. Pump hire costs are reduced as large areas can be placed in a single pour. Reinforcement is generally lighter and there should be savings in the reinforcement fixing costs as there is virtually no cutting of the full size mesh sheets, the placing is simplified and the need for conventional bar chairs is mostly eliminated. In applications where there are vast areas of applied finishes, such as regional shopping centres and supermarkets, the savings can become huge as the induced cracks do not require reflection through applied finishes. Hence there is generally no requirement for the expensive control joint cover strips normally installed in slab on grade floors over all control joints. The only jointing necessary in the applied finishes are those that are required by the manufacturer of the finishing materials, or those that are required by the finishing trade, which yet again should add to the cost savings and the reduction in construction time.
